[Bug 679150] New: radeon driver crashes when un-minimizing a window

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=679150 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=679150#c0 Summary: radeon driver crashes when un-minimizing a window Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: marcianx@gmail.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:2.0b12) Gecko/20110222 Firefox/4.0b12 SUMMARY This is on openSUSE 11.4 x86_64 with KDE 4.6.0 on a Dell XPS 630 with an ATI Radeon HD 4870. As a temporary fix to bug https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=679148 I turned off Kernel Mode Setting and used the following xorg.conf Section "Device" Identifier "ATI" Driver "radeon" EndSection Section "DRI" Mode 0666 EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "InternalLCD" Option "DPMS" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Device "ATI" Monitor "InternalLCD" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1920x1200" EndSubSection EndSection The radeon driver initialized properly (see OpenGL info below), but it randomly "crashes" in the sense that the X11 suddenly resets and returns to the login screen. "dmesg|grep drm" shows the following lines, once for each "crash". [ 2205.247696] [drm] Resetting GPU [ 2205.786244] [drm] Setting GART location based on new memory map [ 2205.786533] [drm] Loading RV770 CP Microcode [ 2205.820657] [drm] Resetting GPU [ 2205.820713] [drm] writeback test succeeded in 1 usecs One way to consistently reproduce the crash is to minimize a window and then to un-minimize it. This works with un-minimizing Konsole, Firefox, Chrome, Amarok, and possibly many others. What other information can I provide to help debug this? This problem seems to be specific to KDE. I just tried IceWM, TWM, LXDE, and XFCE, and none of them have exhibited this crash so far. I specifically tried to reproduce the problem via un-minimization (as mentioned above) and have not reproduced any crashes in these other WMs. I have two questions: 1. Has anyone else reproduced this crash? 2. What logs can I possibly check to see what's triggering this error? I seem to have a frustrating lack of information about the cause. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Could you please test again with a current Milestone of openSUSE 12.1, whether the issue still exists and give me feedback about the result? https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=679150 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=679150#c4 --- Comment #4 from A M <marcianx@gmail.com> 2011-09-01 14:32:57 UTC --- Well, openSUSE Tumbleweed seems to have fixed this problem. However, it might have also been because the ATI driver started working properly, possibly due to the kernel update (please see bug https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=679148 , where I just now marked this observation). Alternatively, it might have been some fix in KDE -- I really don't know. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

In that case just let's close the issue as fixed (for openSUSE 11.2). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
