[Bug 349052] New: opensuse updater: Unable to check whether updates are available
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=349052 Summary: opensuse updater: Unable to check whether updates are available Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: 64bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Update Problems AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: amantia@kde.org QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Customer The problem is just like in bug 309637 with a subtle difference: the online update source was added and tested that it works with YOU. Actually I was using YOU and just now wanted to switch to the KDE updater applet, and found that I got this message. The first problem is that it doesn't work, the second is that the message tells me nothing about what can be wrong. Strange is that it works if I log out as a different user. The problematic user runs a self compiled KDE and I removed the opensuseupdaterrc but didn't help. It contains: [General] BackendPlugin=zypp_backend The same is in the rc file of the working user. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

But I switched now to networkmanager. KNetworkmanager says I have an active device, but the updater still gives me the same error. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Different values from 1 or 8 cause the reported "Unable to check.." message. If a restart of opensuseupdater-kde doesn't help, I don't have any idea why this message is shown. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=349052 User amantia@kde.org added comment https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=349052#c16 --- Comment #16 from Andras Mantia <amantia@kde.org> 2008-01-08 06:11:22 MST --- I think we are getting closer to the solution. :) dcop kded networkstatus status Not enough arguments (expected 0, got 0). But: dcop kded networkstatus status localhost 8 Now if I log in with the user who runs the stock KDE version: dcop kded networkstatus status 1
From what I see the DCOP interface was changed in an incompatible way. As far as I see kdepim/networkstatus/networkstatus.h (where this is defined) contains the extra "host" parameter since 2005-01-24.
Does openSUSE patch the networkstatus kded service?? My version is a self-compiled KDE: Qt: 3.3.8 KDE: 3.5.8 The other (working version): Qt: 3.3.8 KDE: 3.5.8 "release 22.3" -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
