This problem also occurred with an installed version of Tumbleweed. The keyboard backlight is not available in the UI of KDE Plasma 5 (“Battery and Brightness” in the Systray). The metrics of the keyboard backlight are available through /sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/leds/tpacpi::kbd_backlight/* and interacting with /sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/leds/tpacpi::kbd_backlight/brightness works. Also, the keyboard backlight works with the latest Kubuntu, Ubuntu and Fedora versions. Anything I should test? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

So this is basically the same problem as with #1065642: "upower" needs to be in the live ISO and in the default installation.
