[Bug 737869] New: Reboot instead of system shutdown on ThinkPad T500
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=737869 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=737869#c0 Summary: Reboot instead of system shutdown on ThinkPad T500 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: Nico.Laus.2001@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:9.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0 Shutting down the system (KDE/KDM -> logout -> shutdown) reboots the system instead of shutting down. Moreover, I need to hit the power button for 5sec in the right moment after BIOS is shown, otherwise the system just boots again before asking for password. After BIOS upgrade to the newest one provided by lenovo, it goes on until the password and further (I can boot properly). But if I hit the power button too late or too short, it (re-)boots again. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. KDE -> logout -> shutdown or 2. at login screen, hit shutdown Actual Results: reboot Expected Results: shutdown, power-off please tell me which information is useful for this bug report and how to generate it -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

For example "shutdown -h -P now" ? I think we can rule out KDE problem if shutdown command manifest same problem .. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This is why I already thought that it must be kernel-related. Also there was some discussion about the reboot-problem in recent kernels a while ago, if I remember correctly... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Found similar reports, and this workaround helped. Execute this commands before shutdown. sudo /sbin/rmmod battery sudo /sbin/rmmod ac I tried to automate the workaround by putting it into /etc/init.d/halt.local but in this context it didn't helped. I checked that the commands got executed before shutdown (and they do). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

At first the problem didn't appeared on it. But later it appeared. I think it was after installing the Package "laptop-mode-tools". The problem always appears when shutting down in battery-mode (on the other Thinkpad mentioned before it also only appears when in battery-mode - forgot to mention this before). It does not appear when suspending to disk! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=737869 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=737869#c10 --- Comment #10 from Moritz Duge <colAflash@gmx.net> 2012-03-04 21:26:26 UTC --- OK, looks like laptop-mode-tools is the reason. Because I don't want to miss it I wrote this workaround. In /etc/init.d/laptop-mode I changed this stop) rm -f /var/run/laptop-mode-tools/enabled if RESULT=`/usr/sbin/laptop_mode stop` ; then log_success_msg "$RESULT" else log_failure_msg "$RESULT" fi ;; into this stop) rmmod battery rmmod ac sleep 1 rm -f /var/run/laptop-mode-tools/enabled if RESULT=`/usr/sbin/laptop_mode stop` ; then log_success_msg "$RESULT" else log_failure_msg "$RESULT" fi sleep 1 modprobe ac modprobe battery ;; It works and also explains why it didn't worked to put rmmod battery rmmod ac into /etc/init.d/halt.local When putting the rmmod commands into halt.local they become executed on shutdown after laptop-mode-tools have already been stopped. So laptop-mode-tools can't deactivate the laptop-mode anymore. By putting the rmmod command into /etc/init.d/laptop-mode before stopping laptop-mode-tools the laptop-mode becomes deactivated. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
