[Bug 617712] New: KDE use the Documents path as working directory
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=617712 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=617712#c0 Summary: KDE use the Documents path as working directory Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: RC 1 Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: lars.koraeus@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.4) Gecko/20100527 SUSE/3.6.4-2.2 Firefox/3.6.4 KDE is still missing a way to set the default working directory for itself and all its applications. Now it uses the Documents path. This however makes it impossible to have Documents as an mount point and if on a remote system ALL are working on the remote system. If it is impossible to make it configurable it should at least be defaulted to the current home directory. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Nothing to reproduce just take a look at lsof or fuser to see the disaster. 2. 3. Actual Results: All KDE related are now running with the ~/Documents as working directory. Expected Results: To set a descent working directory that not use any others directory as working directory. Yes it is critical if you have your Documents in another partition, direct or linked. Now you have to log out to change Documents directory. Agree that an ordinary user never recognize this but it still a misleading. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Now KDE use the Documents path as working directory. It is is exactly this I am opposing against. I cannot have all KDE apps blocking my Document directory/partition as their working directory. But to use ¤HOME as default working directory seems to me be a much better solution if you not want to have it configurable. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Not much to add. There is no work-path fro KDE and instead they use the Documents path. This is not a very good solution as it make it impossible to mount unmount/remount a Document partition. If KDE not want to have a user specified path then the home directory would be much better. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
