They happen when access to a file, either read or write is requested via the GUI dialogs. - Examples: A number of applications crash in a predictable way ever since OS was upgraded from 11.1 to 11.3 and KDE was upgraded from 4.3 to 4.5, most notable Firefox 3.6/4.0b12 and Eclipse Classic Helios 3.6.2 amongst other applications. For example, running eclipse as standard user and choosing to Switch Workspace -> Other, when clicking the Browse button it crashes. I've noticed that the file dialog briefly appears sometimes but is too quick to catch. the opensuse repository or the mozila latest 4.0b13 (?) (removed all addons and cleaned user preferences in advance). When you try to read a file or saveas a file, the file dialog comes up and firefox crashes. Sometimes it hangs with the dialog still open but with all fields grayed out (not filled in yet) ---------------------------- OS: OpenSuSe 11.3 standard, KDE 4.5 Release Stable HW: Dell Inspiron 1520, T5250 Duo @ 1.5GHz with 2.5GB memory Intel Mobile GM965/GL960 GFX and 160GB Hybrid HD Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Eclipse: 1. File | Switch workspace | Other | Browse -> crash 2. File | Open File -> crash 3. From the Package Explorer (Java perspective but also others) | Import | Choose any source, e.g. ganeral -> file system | choose directory | browse -> crash Firefox/Chrome: 1. Expected Results: To have the Browse dialog box populated with files under the default (last) directory accessed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Somehow it affects Firefox, Chromium and Google Chrome browsers but not Konqueror or Opera. I find myself having to use 2 different browsers at the same time, cause I like the functionality of firefox and chrome. It is a major pain and one of the reasons I still have windows installed... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This bug was the most annoying as I lost a lot of work now and again. As such, in the end I decided to scrap the OS and re-install 11.4 from scratch. Very disappointing experience thus far and as there is little interest in this bug maybe it could be archived as I can provide no logs any longer. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
