[Bug 561131] New: Provide a Qt build with graphicssystem=raster
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=561131 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=561131#c0 Summary: Provide a Qt build with graphicssystem=raster Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: cyberbeat@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (X11; Linux i686; U; de) Presto/2.2.15 Version/10.10 I have tested this on many (older) pcs, on which I like to use actual opensuse-distribution: on all my test hardware kde4 and its applications (even when used in kde3) are much too slow, to be able to work with. Tested hardware:combinations: GFX-Cards: ATI Radeon 7000, 9000, 9200, 9250 NVidia FX 5200, Geforce 4 Mainboards: PC-Chips m848a Elitegroup K7s5a Elitgroup K7s6a ASROCK K7S41GX With CPUs: Athlon XP 1700 Athlon XP 2000 Athlon XP 2200 On all these combinations most problems disappear when starting qt4 applications with graphicssystem=raster A good test example is the folderview-panel on the left of dolphin: open the tree (for example /usr/lib) and scroll. This is really sluggish without raster. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It's not a bug either so if at all it would have to go to features.opensuse.org. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=561131 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=561131#c2 --- Comment #2 from H. Hansen <cyberbeat@gmx.de> 2009-12-06 02:20:05 UTC --- you don't want to start konsole for every application start and add the option. also you don't want to edit the kmenu entry/desktop entry for each application. It should simply work. So I think to offer an additional qt-build for that makes sense. It will solve problems for many people, who do not own the newest hardware. If it is a bug in performance or a feature-wish can be discussed. For me, kde4 is useless without raster, so more seen as a bug, compared to kde3, where it worked. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=561131 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=561131#c3 --- Comment #3 from Sven Burmeister <sven.burmeister@gmx.net> 2009-12-06 07:58:22 UTC --- It works very well with desktop effects enabled on netbooks with intel graphics chipset. You can start your own repo on the buildservice. You just need to copy the spec-files from the already existent Qt repos. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=561131 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=561131#c4 --- Comment #4 from H. Hansen <cyberbeat@gmx.de> 2009-12-07 16:22:26 UTC --- Today I tested it on an modern one year old dual core intel laptop (much better as a netbook) with intel gm45 express gfx chipset. While compositing works well, same problem with scrolling. And again worked much better (really fast) with raster-engine. (A good test example is the folderview-panel on the left of dolphin: open the tree (for example /usr/lib) and scroll. This is really sluggish without raster.) Your last comment was something I did not expect, if I could fix it simply by mymelf, I had not created a bug report. please think about it: I would estimate 30-40% of the users do NOT own the newest hardware and will have same problems as me. And I have really tested a few systems now, as you can see. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=561131 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=561131#c6 --- Comment #6 from H. Hansen <cyberbeat@gmx.de> 2010-05-29 08:16:27 UTC --- I think "native". I am not sure why it is slow, but it is on *all* my hardware, and I tested a lot (even on my current intel gfx: Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset, see above my tested other cards) - ok I used not really high end cards, but most people dont do that. to reproduce please try my example from above: start dolphin with --graphicssystem=raster A good test example is the folderview-panel on the left of dolphin: open the tree (for example /usr/lib) and scroll top and down. Hansen <cyberbeat@gmx.de> 2010-06-07 14:13:20 UTC --- I now tested the new graphicssystem=opengl with my intel-gfx-card and this has comparable good performance as raster. Last time I tested that, it was worse, I am not sure if a new gfx card or new qt-version is the reason. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
