[Bug 633471] New: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request azx_probe snd_hda_intel - No Sound.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=633471 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=633471#c0 Summary: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request azx_probe snd_hda_intel - No Sound. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: dancasper@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100723 SUSE/3.6.8-0.1.1 Firefox/3.6.8 After installing openSUSE 11.3 I have no sound. I receive a kernel paging request bug when booting which hangs the boot process for 3 - 5 minutes. If I attempt to configure my sound card via `yast2 sound` the app hangs indefinitely when clicking Edit > Next. Tests with speaker-test give device errors. After the system boots sound does not work. Expected Results: Would like the boot to not get delayed and also have sound. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

What machine is this? Vendor and product name? The driver has been working pretty well over years and this kind of crash is so rare. So this is likely a bug of lower layer, which gives the wrong address to the driver. Did the driver ever work on older distros? Anyway, you can add "blacklist snd-hda-intel" to some file /etc/modprobe.d/ for avoiding the automatic loading. Then try to load manually via "modprobe snd-hda-intel probe_only=1". You may still get the same Oops. If you don't, try to get alsa-info.sh at this state again. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I thought I remembered it being pretty consistent when I was getting it during boot - enough so that I tried searching by it to see if anyone else had reported anything anywhere else.
