[Bug 753525] New: Unable to install scanner using Yast.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=753525 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=753525#c0 Summary: Unable to install scanner using Yast. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Milestone 2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: hacker@scarlet-jade.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:11.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/11.0 I tried installing my scanner (Epson Perfection 4870 Photo) but I get the following message in Yast: "No scanner was detected and no active scanner or driver exists." I noticed iscan-free was not installed, as it is by default in 12.1, so added it but nothing changed. Sane-backends modules were already installed. One other difference I noticed during the Yast process was that the last item, "detecting scanners," was accompanied by the raising of an attention window which just said that it was detecting scanners. This does not normally appear. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

What do the commands (run all as root) # lsusb # sane-find-scanner # scanimage -L # grep -v '^#' /etc/sane.d/dll.conf output? Please attach the output as MIME type "text/plain" to this bug. Also try out if the current package "sane-backends" from its openSUSE development project "graphics" works for you. The latest RPM changelog entry therein is: ------------------------------------------------------------------- Tue Mar 20 15:44:31 UTC 2012 - jslaby@suse.de - re-add support for USB scanners ------------------------------------------------------------------- I guess your scanner is connected via USB and it seems USB support in sane-backends was temporarily lost. " ;-) I included http://download.opensuse.org/factory/repo/oss/ as I couldn't find the one you mentioned straight away. Updated sane-backends modules and was able to configure the scanner successfully. Also verified that it scanned OK. I hadn't included factory repos before as had received advice in the past that it was best to test the basic system as issued and report problems before complicating things by adding more repos. Thanks for your help in solving this problem. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
