http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=595159 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=595159#c0 Summary: GNOME panel in vertical mode freezes with many windows Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: radomir.cernoch@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US) AppleWebKit/533.3 SUSE/5.0.353.0-1.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/5.0.353.0 Safari/533.3 I am using the Gnome panel aligned to the left side of the screen. If there are too many windows opened (approx. more than 6) the panel becomes full and in such moment, it freezes. In such moment, the panel stops responding and the CPU is 100% occupied by 'gnome-panel' process. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Move the main GNOME panel to left side of the screen. 2. Start a lot of windows -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

A lengthy discussion of the bug can be found at: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=513347 The most important workaround that I found in this discussion is to change the panel width below 30 pixel. That means I don't get icons any more, just two anonymous dots ('..') but at least the panel does not seem to freeze any more. Not likely, you have already upgraded to newer versions of openSUSE, which had a lot more bug fixes. As openSUSE 11.3 is no longer maintained (for a long time already) and I can't seem to reproduce anything similar in openSUSE 12.1 / 12.2 RC, I close the bug as 'FIXED'. Should you be able to reproduce this issue on a newer openSUSE version, please feel to report it again. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
