[Bug 218249] New: SOMETIMES no mount points for USB memory devices created
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=218249 Summary: SOMETIMES no mount points for USB memory devices created Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: i386 OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Hotplug AssignedTo: ihno@novell.com ReportedBy: peter.nuechter@gmx.net QAContact: qa@suse.de In principle the hotplug mechanism for USB memory devices seems to work on my system. This can be seen at the attachment (see subsequent comment) with the outputs of lshal --monitor, udevmonitor and /var/log/messages. Sometimes, however, the hotplugging seems to be completely unaware of plugging/unplugging events. I have NO problem, once the device files (.e.g. /dev/sda) are generated. I DO have problems, due to the non-creation of such device files SOMETIMES. The bug is not systematically repeatable in the sence, that I could say, that it would happen every 5th plugging/unpluggin event or that it would happen with a specific device. Once the problem occurs, the only solution seems to be a reboot - I have the impression (can not proof) that a even a complete shutdown/restart is necessary to fix the problem. Devices are * A memory stick (Swissbit) with a strange partitioning (which is NOT the problem) * A NIKON D70s camera * A multi card reader Workaround: Completely unloading/relodaing the usb modules (down to the core) solves the problem. There is no need to restart HAL. The workaround works with plugged and hot-plugged devices. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Neither the dmesg output nor the outputs of lshal -m nor udevmonitor nor the KDE USB monitor show any plug in event. The NIKON displays the "PC" indicator in their display, i.e. it notices, that it is plugged into a port. This happend after a lot of connect/disconnect actions. Actually. one could suspect the 7-in-1-card reader, because it happend only after connecting this device (without any memory cards, btw.). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
