The Atheros wireless does not work. It goes up, associate to the access point was NetworkManager (WPA encryption) but ping to the gateway is very unreliable.
Hmm, I've just tried a more-or-less similar card and was able to ping without too much packet loss. Could you elaborate the effect you get a bit more? Do you have packet loss or is pinging not possible at all? Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

As a test, I downloaded the compat-wireless-2009-03-14 source code from wireless.kernel.org and recompiled the wireless drivers with the latest code available, and I am no longer experiencing any problems with my wireless. I'll give it some more tests, but I've thrown several thousand pings through the interface without any being dropped, so I would assume that if you were to backport the latest wireless code to the 2.6.27 openSUSE kernel, you'd probably resolve this bug. When the ath5k module load after resume, it can't initialize the pci card. The ath5k code shipped by Novell works fine with suspend, so by simply backporting the newer code we would be fixing one problem but creating another. First, download the package that Jiri provided. Then 'tar xvf compat-wireless-2009-03-30-2.6.27.19-default.tar.bz2' to extract it. Then, as root, change into the newly created compat-wireless-2009-03-30 directory. You'll see two directories under this: "drivers" and "net". We want to copy these directories into the "updates" directory in your module path. You can do so by running: "cp -a drivers net /lib/modules/`uname -r`/updates/" Once copied, unload all of the wireless modules and reload them. The easiest way to do this in your case would probably be to reboot the machine. When it comes back up, it will load the new modules automatically. If the new modules don't work for you, remove them by deleting the drivers and net directories in /lib/modules/`uname -r`/updates and reboot again. It will then load the old modules that were already there. Of course, the easiest way to do all of this, in my opinion, is download the compat-wireless code directly from wireless.kernel.org and compile it yourself. You need to have gcc and your kernel source installed, but issuing 'make' and 'make install' is a lot easier than copying the files manually, and 'make unload' and 'modprobe ath5k' is a lot faster than rebooting. I hope that helps. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

"cp -a drivers net /lib/modules/`uname -r`/updates/"
You don't even need to copy it anywhere. Just load it from that unpacked directory by insmod.

I've found few packagers of compat-wireless on http://software.opensuse.org/search?baseproject=openSUSE%3A11.1&p=4&q=compat-wireless You can pick one of them, e.g. http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/Akoellh/openSUSE_11.1_Update... and install rpm from there. If something doesn't work, just uninstall the rpm and reboot... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
