[Bug 770873] New: Suspending laptop by closing lid does not lock session if screen locking is disabled
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=770873 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=770873#c0 Summary: Suspending laptop by closing lid does not lock session if screen locking is disabled Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Beta 2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: badshah400@gmail.com QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:13.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/13.0.1 I have disabled screen locking on laptop, so that I do not have to bother giving the password every 5 minutes i leave it idle. Unfortunately turning off screen locking in the gnome-control-center also prevents locking when resuming from suspend, when the laptop is suspended by closing the lid. If the laptop is suspended from the user menu instead, resuming from suspend does require the user password still, just like it should. The fact that no password is required to laptop usage after coming out from suspend when it was suspended by closing the lid, is possibly a big security issue. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Turn screen locking off (gnome-control-center -> Brightness and Lock) 2.Close laptop lid: laptop suspends 3.Open lid and try to start using laptop, no user password necessary. 4.In contrast, click on suspend from the user menu: while resuming, password is asked for no matter the configuration of "Turn screen locking off" in gnome-control-center -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I filed the bug in upstream and will see how upstream deals with this issue. https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=680231 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

If this is the way we gonna do, I'll submit the patch. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
