Thank you Michael, I had to completely remove packagekit & apper in order to gain control of two different systems here OpenSUSE 12.2 KDE 64bit & OpenSUSE 12.2 KDE 32bit. If I were to reinstall packagekit & apper to replicate this, what exactly do you need from me to help resolve this long running problem please? As said in comment#11 zypper sends a SuggestDaemonQuit via dbus-send. The zypper logs I got so far don't show any error in executing this. I suppose this is more a dbus or PackageKit issue. @Vincent: Do you know how one can figure out if PK actually got this signal from dbus? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hrm, I can't say if there's a way to do this :/ I see PackageKit is using g_debug() to output some debug messages, so maybe settings G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all and manually starting PackageKit could help. But it's likely that PackageKit is simply busy doing something (refreshing repos?), which is why it wouldn't quit. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

But that is what zypper should do (when it asks to do, already): killing the job, even he is busy. A 'killall packagekitd' does not care whether a job is busy or not. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Yes but the _problem_ is that Packagekit is "doing something" for inappropriate lengths of time. In my experience on KDE installs of OpenSUSE 12.1/2 KDE the user/administrator cannot use his/her package manager of choice _frequently/regularly_ due to packagekit. Is finally this clear now? In the many many forum posts the standard advice is inevitably to give up asking for a fix from the dev's but to kill packagekit & remove it from the system. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
