I attempted to install openSUSE 11.0 Beta 2 from DVD on top of the Alpha 3 installation I had on a USB drive (/dev/sdc7) - an "upgrade" didn't seem to work - and it refused to boot AND it wiped out the boot block that I had on sda (my primary hard drive) even though I'd told the installer to leave it alone. (Used 10.2 DVD and grub-install to recover the sda boot block). Autopsy reveals that the 11.0 /etc/grub.conf file left behind told grub to install stage_2 on both (hd0) and (hd2,6), even though I only wanted the latter. It didn't/won't install to (hd2,6) even under Rescue, even after editing /etc/grub.conf. The "new" grub-install script won't work properly under Rescue Mode, complaining about yast and other stuff missing, and it doesn't detect disks and spindles properly. (Yes, I do have BIOS boot support for external USB drives, and it works properly under Anaconda for Fedora 8 and 9, and worked under openSUSE 11.0 Alpha 3). Given that it's very tedious and time-consuming to boot my laptop using the openSUSE 11 DVD (5 minute timeouts on each of the USB and IEEE1394 drivers, hangs on the ssb driver, etc.), I can't give you an hwinfo output.
