[Bug 335450] New: No usual access to X-Windows documentation
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=335450 Summary: No usual access to X-Windows documentation Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Documentation AssignedTo: ke@novell.com ReportedBy: UweGalle@gmx.de QAContact: ke@novell.com Found By: --- The reference manual says in the chapter "X-Window-System / Manually Configuring the X Window System": "Those who try to develop their own monitor descriptions should be very familiar with the documentation in /usr/share/X11/doc." (http://www.novell.com/documentation/opensuse103/opensuse103_reference/index....) But in /usr/share/X11/doc there are only DocBook 4.2 SGML-files. I assume that this documentation is useful for other topics too. I didn't find any hint how to use these files. DocBook 4.2-files cannot be opened in openSUSE 10.3. There is no Yelp entry for X-Window as it can be expected so that it is in my opinion justified to classify this missing entry as a bug. On the DocBook website there is a very general description how to convert DocBook 4.2 files into DocBook 5.0 (http://www.docbook.org/docs/howto/#convert4to5). Because I am not familiar with DocBook I cannot use this description. In the chapter there is also the subchapter "For More Information". This recommends to install xorg-x11-doc and howtoenh. But there is no hint how to access this documentation. Yelp does not display any entry for X-Window in this case too. Because I think that can be expected this should be a bug too. Independent if these are bugs for you or not please answer these Questions or provide links to documents: 1) How to access the documentation of /usr/share/X11/doc, xorg-x11-doc and howtoenh? 2) How to convert DocBook 4.2 files to DocBook 5.0 files (step by step)? 3) Because of what reasons DocBook 4.2 files are provided with X-Window? 5.0 files would be easier! 4) How to integrate DocBook 5.0 files into the Yelp menu? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

--- Comment #2 from Uwe Galle
Thanks for the report. I need more info, please. Please, run rpm -qf FILENAME on one of the SGML files in /usr/share/X11/doc (instead of FILENAME insert the real name) and post the output here.
I invoked: rpm -qf /usr/share/X11/doc/graphics/dps.sgml The reply was: xorg-x11-doc-7.2-56.1 Thank you for your help. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
