[Bug 463889] New: xrandr crashes X server
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=463889 Summary: xrandr crashes X server Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: cwilke@mail.utexas.edu QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: Customer I have a Dell Latitude D630 with Intel 965 graphics card. I use the laptop in a docking station with dual-monitor setup (laptop monitor + external monitor connected through the docking station). I can reliably crash the X server using xrandr, in the following way: 1. Connect laptop to docking station. 2. Boot up and log in. (At this point, both monitors are working, but show the same image.) 3. Enter: xrandr --output LVDS --auto --output TMDS-1 --auto --output TMDS-1 --right-of LVDS 4. The X server crashes, and I'm sent back to the login screen. If, however, I enter "xrandr" without arguments between steps 2. and 3., then everything works fine. Below follow my output from xrandr and my hwinfo. wilke@linux-ucq4:~> xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 2840 x 1050, maximum 3840 x 1200 VGA disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) LVDS connected 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 303mm x 189mm 1440x900 60.0*+ 60.0 58.9 50.0 1024x768 60.0 800x600 60.3 56.2 640x480 59.9 TMDS-1 connected 1400x1050+1440+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 408mm x 306mm 1400x1050 60.0*+ 60.0 60.0 1280x1024 75.0 60.0 60.0 1280x960 60.0 1152x864 75.0 75.0 1024x768 75.1 75.0 70.1 60.0 832x624 74.6 800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2 640x480 75.0 72.8 72.8 75.0 66.7 60.0 59.9 720x400 70.1 TV disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) wilke@linux-ucq4:~> /usr/sbin/hwinfo --gfxcard 09: PCI 02.0: 0300 VGA compatible controller (VGA) [Created at pci.318] UDI: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pci_8086_2a02 Unique ID: _Znp.FpMJM5jq4RE SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0 SysFS BusID: 0000:00:02.0 Hardware Class: graphics card Model: "Dell Latitude D630" Vendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation" Device: pci 0x2a02 "965 GM" SubVendor: pci 0x1028 "Dell" SubDevice: pci 0x01f9 "Latitude D630" Revision: 0x0c Memory Range: 0xfea00000-0xfeafffff (rw,non-prefetchable) Memory Range: 0xe0000000-0xefffffff (rw,prefetchable) I/O Ports: 0xefe8-0xefef (rw) IRQ: 16 (274552 events) I/O Ports: 0x3c0-0x3df (rw) Module Alias: "pci:v00008086d00002A02sv00001028sd000001F9bc03sc00i00" Driver Info #0: XFree86 v4 Server Module: intel Driver Info #1: XFree86 v4 Server Module: intel 3D Support: yes Extensions: dri Config Status: cfg=no, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown 10: PCI 02.1: 0380 Display controller [Created at pci.318] UDI: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pci_8086_2a03 Unique ID: ruGf.mFkxFx+UM24 SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1 SysFS BusID: 0000:00:02.1 Hardware Class: graphics card Model: "Intel Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller" Vendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation" Device: pci 0x2a03 "Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller" SubVendor: pci 0x1028 "Dell" SubDevice: pci 0x01f9 Revision: 0x0c Memory Range: 0xfeb00000-0xfebfffff (rw,non-prefetchable) Module Alias: "pci:v00008086d00002A03sv00001028sd000001F9bc03sc80i00" Config Status: cfg=no, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown Primary display adapter: #9 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The crash doesn't always occur. I have experienced it many times since installing OpenSuse 11.1, but when I just tried to reproduce it to get a clean X.org log file, it didn't happen. There seems to be an additional step necessary to get a reliable crash. I will see if I can identify what it is. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Closing as WORKSFORME for now. In case you can provide steps to reproduce it reliably, please reopen. Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
