[Bug 447241] New: r8169 module needs to be patched
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=447241 Summary: r8169 module needs to be patched Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mhatch@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I did a search and couldn't find any reference to this issue on Novell's bugzilla. I am running kernel 2.6.25.18-0.2-default x86_64. Basically, as soon as the r8169 module is loaded on my system, the RX dropped counter starts running out of control. For example, here's the packet output for ifconfig on eth0: RX packets:223222187 errors:0 dropped:171105663586175 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:253944939 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:151120734554 (144119.9 Mb) TX bytes:362067652363 (345294.6 Mb) This bug was addressed by kernel.org in September and has been patched in their current kernel releases. Please refer to the following: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10180 Any chance of getting this patch backported to the 2.6.25 kernel running in openSUSE 11? 'modinfo r8169' shows a newer module version, but I am seeing the same problem (2.3LK-NAPI in the 2.6.27.4 kernel vs 2.2LK in 2.6.25.18 kernel). I am going to try a vanilla 2.6.27.7 kernel just to see if it is indeed fixed in that. More info to come. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Thanks! I'll use this until I see a new kernel come through the update channel. Will the shipping kernel for openSUSE 11.1 will have this patch applied as well, since the beta kernel I tested does not have it? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Yes 11.1 RC1 already has this fix. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
