[Bug 263998] New: no static glib2 libraries
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=263998 Summary: no static glib2 libraries Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 3 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: aj@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de curently ocfs2-tools does not build since no static glib libraries are available. The package needs static libraries indeed. Btw. I consider glib basic enough that we should have static libs in any case. Please readd the static libs. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=263998 ------- Comment #2 from judas_iscariote@shorewall.net 2007-04-12 15:56 MST ------- then if a security hole is found in glib all package that were compiled against statically may require an upgrade.. this is a risky business.. shouldnt oscfs2-tools should be fixed instead ? ( just curious) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=263998 ------- Comment #3 from maw@novell.com 2007-04-12 18:19 MST ------- The package contains /sbin/fsck.ocfs2 /sbin/mkfs.ocfs2 /sbin/mounted.ocfs2 /sbin/tunefs.ocfs2 /sbin/o2cb_ctl /sbin/mount.ocfs2 among other files. ocfs2-tools isn't my package, but I think the rationale for static linking in this case is that those binaries need to be able to work even when the drive that would hold the shared libs is not mounted. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Please readd the static libs.
the static libs have never been removed, glib never had any. It uses AM_DISABLE_STATIC by default since ages: Sun Mar 3 21:09:24 2002 Owen Taylor <otaylor@redhat.com> * configure.in: Default to --disable-static to go along with Pango, GTK+ where we need to do that for bin-compat reasons. http://svn.gnome.org/viewcvs/glib/trunk/configure.in?r1=1825&r2=1855 How did ocfs2-tools build before? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
