[Bug 938896] New: wicket fails to update resolv.conf and forwarders.conf correctly after switching from networkA to networkB
http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=938896 Bug ID: 938896 Summary: wicket fails to update resolv.conf and forwarders.conf correctly after switching from networkA to networkB Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: fabian.herschel@suse.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Currently I have the problem that after detaching my laptop from network A and pluging it to network B the files /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/named.d/forwarders.conf still get the old DNS server names from network A. Even when I remove all active lines and run the command ... netconfig update -f ... the old DND server is rewritten to the above files. Using the dns-test tool prints the new DNS server names. When I restart the network for example using rcnetwork stop rcnetwork start than I get the new DNS servers been written into the files. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

There might be some problem with handling of the events: NI_EVENT_ADDRESS_ACQUIRED, NI_EVENT_ADDRESS_RELEASED, NI_EVENT_ADDRESS_DEFERRED.
Please provide logs as described here: https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Bugreport_wicked
Please give me some time to provide the logs, because I need to run into this situation once more. Normally the problem rises very often, but today the network switch worked fine. Might be that I can force that switching from wired LAN to WLAN later today. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

No problem. It would be best if it could be reproduced on a LAN -> LAN network change, since it rules out all the wpa_supplicant communication for network authentication. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

We have a policy to use netconfig, configurable in yast2. netconfig considers changes to the file as intended by the admin/user and does not overwrite the file without to disable the netconfig module. A NETCONFIG_FORCE_REPLACE=yes in /etc/sysconfig/network/config forces to overwrite the files. Obviously, something is not following the policy and breaks the file. Interesting is the content of the file when it gets broken as it often gives a hint which program is not following the rules.
