Issues originally were combined in bug #408728 4) System does not switch between pointing devices when PS2 mouse is plugged/unplugged. With openSUSE 10.3 I could boot with a PS2 mouse, then when I unplugged the mouse the onboard touch pad would become operational, and vice versa. With openSUSE 11.0 I cannot switch from one pointing device to the other. System: HP Pavilion ze4200 (Linux logs report ze4400) AMD Athlon Mobile 2400+ Display Device: ATI RS100 4336 KDE 3 I get the same results whether using kernel 2.6.25.11-0.1-pae, 2.6.25.9-0.2-pae or 2.6.25.5-1.1-pae. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I agree that this is not an X issue. The information he posted in Comment #3 is not out of the ordinary: With openSUSE 10.3 "sysp -s mouse" reports the same information when booted with the Logitech mouse connected. The difference relates to what happens when I subsequently unplug the Logitech mouse. After this event, with openSUSE 10.3, "sysp -s mouse" reports that the touchpad has been detected. With openSUSE 11.0, "sysp -s mouse" erroneously continues to report the presence of the Logitech mouse. As I mentioned in the original description, the issue is symmetrical: If I boot without the Logitech mouse connected, "sysp -s mouse" will detect the touchpad, but if I subsequently connect the Logitech mouse, openSUSE 10.3 would detect the change, but openSUSE 11.0 would not. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

These problems look Embedded Controller related. I know there can be intereferences between EC and mouse. Jittering and similar already have been seen which boiled down to BIOS, EC firmware or EC driver bugs. I do not know about issues where mouse detection did not work, I am also not sure whether that is possible at all, just want to mention that those bugs (see description of this one) could be related. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please run 'hwinfo --mouse --log=foo' in a situation where the mouse is detected incorrectly and attach the log.
Test case: Booted with no external mouse connected. Touch pad is functional. Executed the above command. Connected external mouse. Touch pad is functional, external mouse is not. Executed the above command (attached). I diffed the above files.
