[Bug 269921] New: Scanned images are mis-colored (sane-1.0.18-34)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=269921 Summary: Scanned images are mis-colored (sane-1.0.18-34) Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 URL: http://www.seismic.de/sane-bug.jpg OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 Applications AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: yanestra@seismic.de QAContact: sndirsch@novell.com When scanning with sane-1.0.18-34 (either with xsane-0.991-32 or kooka/kdegraphics3-scan-3.5.5-30), scanned images are mis-colored; the image is splitted vertically in half, the right side has a red tint, the left side is rather normal. The problem occurs with every scan size, every position and the image is always parted in the middle. A software problem appears to be evident. # sane-find-scanner found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett-Packard], product=0x0605 [HP ScanJet 2200C], chip=LM9832/3) at libusb:001:002 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I.e. what is the output of "scanimage -L"? Does it happen also when you scan directly using "scanimage" e.g.: scanimage >/tmp/image.pnm or scanimage -d <sane-device> >/tmp/image.pnm (replace sane-device with what scanimage -L has shown as device). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=269921 ------- Comment #3 from yanestra@seismic.de 2007-05-02 11:41 MST ------- # scanimage -L device `plustek:libusb:001:003' is a Hewlett-Packard Scanjet 2200c USB flatbed scanner When using scanimage for scanning, I don't know what area is actually scanned (the picture original isn't even visible), and how to tune those values; the resulting scanned image is rather tiny (202x150), but there is no such effect visible as described in the bug report (when using .pnm format). If you need further testing, please give a hint ("man scanimage" makes me sad). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=269921 ------- Comment #4 from jsmeix@novell.com 2007-05-03 01:59 MST ------- The "EXAMPLES" section in "man scanimage" shows that scanimage -d plustek:libusb:001:003 -h lists all availabe options for the specified device and there you should see something like ----------------------------------------------------------------- Geometry: -l 0..215mm [0] Top-left x position of scan area. -t 0..297mm [0] Top-left y position of scan area. -x 0..215mm [103] Width of scan-area. -y 0..297mm [76.21] Height of scan-area. ----------------------------------------------------------------- so that scanimage -d plustek:libusb:001:003 -x 210 -y 295 >/tmp/image.pnm should scan a complete A4 page in pnm format and scanimage -d plustek:libusb:001:003 -x 210 -y 295 --format tiff
/tmp/image.tiff would result it in tiff format.
By the way: The plustek driver works well for me using a Canon N1240U/LiDE30 (I don't have a Scanjet 2200c). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=269921 ------- Comment #5 from yanestra@seismic.de 2007-05-03 13:52 MST ------- Thx a lot :-). The result looks good. I tried kooka again, prescan is okay, but both 50dpi and 300dpi of the whole A4 area results in the right side be tinted redly, and the left, it appears, greenly. I stored in PNG files. Changing the format to PPM didn't change anything. Scanimage again, "--depth 14": everything okay, "--resolution 300": everything okay. ImageMagick converts without problems. So there is something kooka and xscanimage have in common that destroys my scans. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=269921 ------- Comment #6 from jsmeix@novell.com 2007-05-04 04:46 MST ------- To be safe: In comment #5 you really meant xscanimage or did you actually mean xsane like in comment #0? If you meant xsane, try xscanimage (package sane-frontends). I have no idea what in xscanimage/xsane/kooka could cause such a difference compared to scanimage. I asked on the sane-devel@lists.alioth.debian.org mailing list. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=269921 ------- Comment #7 from jsmeix@novell.com 2007-05-04 07:41 MST ------- There was an answer on the sane-devel list. It seems to happen only on 64-bit architecture and it seems to be a duplicate of the SANE bug report #304296: https://alioth.debian.org/tracker/?group_id=30186&atid=410366&func=detail&aid=304296 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=269921 ------- Comment #8 from yanestra@seismic.de 2007-05-04 13:10 MST ------- Thank you for your thoughtfulness. Sorry, I often confuse xsane and xscanimage. xsane has had the problem, but surprisingly, today it does not. (Configuration unchanged, scanner untouched.) xscanimage I didn't test before, but it doesn't show a visible problem right now. The cited SANE bug report #304296 looks exactly like mine. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=269921 jsmeix@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEEDINFO |RESOLVED Info Provider|yanestra@seismic.de | Resolution| |WONTFIX ------- Comment #9 from jsmeix@novell.com 2007-05-21 00:43 MST ------- When it hapens only on 64-bit architecture ther is another workaround: Install a 32-bit package for a SANE frontend (e.g. the 32-bit package for xsane or sane-frontends). This way the 32-bit SANE libraries would be used (the sane-32bit RPM should be installed by default so that you have the 32-bit SANE libraries). I close this bug as "wontfix" because we (i.e. Suse) won't fix it. It will be fixed upstream (i.e. by a newer sane-backends version). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
