[Bug 382036] New: [sax2] no xorg.conf is written to disk (/etc/X11/)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=382036 Summary: [sax2] no xorg.conf is written to disk (/etc/X11/) Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Beta 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: SaX2 AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: funtasyspace@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I just used the Beta1 ISO to do a fresh installation of openSUSE 11.0. I was wondering, why my configuration changes, I did via SAX2, had no effect after I switched to runlevel 5 again. Therefore I moved all xorg.conf* files from /etc/X11 to another folder, to see if sax creates/writes a xorg.conf file at all. After I ran sax2 and clicked on 'Save configuration' I checked the directory /etc/X11/ again, if there's a xorg.conf file now, but there's none! Next I created an empty xorg.conf in /etc/X11... # touch /etc/X11/xorg.conf .. and ran sax2 again, to see if it writes the configuration there if the file exists. But after I clicked 'Save configuration' /etc/X11/xorg.conf has still zero Bytes and is empty. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Now, I just tried to call sax2 without params: # init 3 # sax2 After finishing the configuration this way, there is a new xorg.conf and xorg.conf.md5 file in /etc/X11/ afterwards. So I am not sure if this is still a bug or expected behavior if sax2 is called with the '-r' option. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It seems like the '-r' parameter is not the reason for sax not writing/generating the xorg.conf. I tried without the '-r' option several times now, by just calling: # init 3 # rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf # rm /var/log/SaX2.log # sax2 Sometimes xorg.conf is created and sometimes not. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I suggest to do the following: init 3 sax2 -r -a init 5 ===> open a terminal and run /usr/sbin/xapi ===> do the same as you did before, and explain what you have done in the GUI ===> click on "ok" => "save". does the application crash ? if yes run xapi again in gdb and send the backtrace thanks -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

What do you recommend? ;-) Another thing - I tested with minimal steps. a) change nothing, just click OK and save the config - works b) - click the "Bildschirm 2" (display 2) tab - activate "Diese Anzeige aktivieren" (activate this display) - then click OK and save the config - crash (segfault) So it seems activating the second monitor causes the crash. (To prevent the question: I also tried just switching to the "Bildschirm 2" tab without changing a setting there - no crash.) (gdb) bt #0 0xb70ec0b0 in ??
