[Bug 976953] New: With current Samba release SMB4K fails to list shares
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=976953 Bug ID: 976953 Summary: With current Samba release SMB4K fails to list shares Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Samba Assignee: samba-maintainers@SuSE.de Reporter: stuart@stella-maris.org.uk QA Contact: samba-maintainers@SuSE.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Although Samba is up and running when SMB4K is started it finds the workgroup OK but when scanning the workgroup it fails and the workgroup disappears until the network is scanned again. According to the SMB4K author this is caused by the net rap server domain -S WORKGROUP command not returning any list of shares. This command does indeed fail both on Tumbleweed and on Leap 42.1 with Samba 4.2.4-15.1. In the case of Leap downleveling to 4.2.4-12.1 resolves the problem. So far on Tumbleweed I've not found an earlier release which does resolve this. I am able to use the smb:// protocol in say Dolphin and it works fine but SMB4k will not work at all. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

This has been reported to Samba at https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11841 and there is a work around and apparently some patches are/will be available soon.
it's not clear whether you experience the same bug here or not, I failed to reproduce this problem locally so I can't really tell. However I would advice careful reading of https://www.samba.org/samba/latest_news.html#4.4.2 especially regarding setting that may need to be tweaked post updating samba to the latest releases Also, the patch mentioned above (and some others) are available from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/network:/samba:/MAINTAINED:/SLE_12... note: a) these are unsupported early access builds for in progress fixes, please ensure you have a backup or snapshot you can easily revert to. b) this repo is for SLE but should work fine for LEAP c) because of the way obs numbers the build version this appears like a version downgrade, you may need to force the install feel free to try it and report back -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
