[Bug 866445] New: [G84][nouveau] system lockup on logout from KDE started via startx
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=866445 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=866445#c0 Summary: [G84][nouveau] system lockup on logout from KDE started via startx Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 13.2 Milestone 0 Platform: PC OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mrmazda@earthlink.net QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=580627) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=580627) Xorg.0.log from 13.2, with selected hardware/software data prepended Happens in neither Fedora 20 nor Fedora 21 nor 12.3 on same system. Happens in current 13.2M0 Factory, and in 13.1 using repositories/X11:/XOrg. Originally 13.1M3, updated to 13.1 final, plus latest updates, and cloned to create Factory. y2logs: https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=551106 Workaround: instead of logging out of KDE, issue 'init 1', then 'init 3'. GT8600 is dual DVI output, but happens whether primary output connected via adapter to CRT or primary output connected to DVI on LCD, regardless whether secondary output is connected at all. To reproduce: 1-boot with 3 on cmdline 2-log in 3-startx (.dmrc contains Session=kde-plasma) 4-log out Actual results: 1-reset button or power button required to regain use of system 2-filesystems left dirty Expected results: 1-working shell prompt from which startx was run -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Uninstall the xorg package and reinstall the xf86 package if it is already installed, after that you should at least have a nouveau driver reporting to be compiled for 1.15.0!
Removing the obsolete did not help. Reinstalling latest did not help. Replacing the GT8600 with a Radeon gfxcard exits X back to shell prompt as expected. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Do you have the compositor enabled,
Does "[ 382.621] (**) Extension "Composite" is disabled" amount to an answer to this? All my installations include the same 70-extensions.conf file containing 'Option "Composite" "Disable"'.
any chance Mesa 10.1 fixed this?
I suppose. The problem now appears impossible to reproduce with 10.1.98 having replaced 10.0.98.
If this is not the case, are you able to capture more information, places to look around:
/var/log/ messages warn localmessages
localmessages was last written 6 months ago. Let me know if you'd care to have warn and covering what period.
and the output of "dmesg"
Now that problem appears gone I suppose this would be irrelevant. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Are you willing to test older Mesa with this fix included?
If it will help anything, provide an RPM, and I will see what results. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
