https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=429446 Summary: gdm crashes when dbus stops Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: R.Vickers@cs.rhul.ac.uk QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Every few days gdm crashes, and it turns out this is caused by dbus crashing. It can be reproduced on both: (1) a 32-bit workstation running a local X server (2) a 64-bit server running remote X logins and no local X server No core file is generated. You can demonstrate the problem as follows: # ps -fp `cat /var/run/gdm.pid` # rcdbus stop # ps -fp `cat /var/run/gdm.pid` Note that only the parent gdm process dies, so existing xdm sessions still continue, but no further logins are accepted. Also note that 'rcxdm status' reports that gdm is still running and 'rcxdm start' does nothing. You have to restart gdm by hand, e.g. gdm --nodaemon --no-console -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
