[Bug 813915] New: Network DVD Install - USB Keyboard/Mouse not recognized on Boot Menu
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=813915 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=813915#c0 Summary: Network DVD Install - USB Keyboard/Mouse not recognized on Boot Menu Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: stevet@copper.net QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:10.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0 [64bit Intel environment through-out] I have the GNOME Live DVD. It boots and allows selection of options. The Network DVD (which allows an update install) does not recognize the USB Keyboard or mouse. BIOS does recognize them so that I can make BIOS changes. The Network DVD iso was obtained via DownThemAll and it does MD5 comparison while downloading. Download showed it was good. But because the installer on the DVD will not recognize the keyboard, then upon time-out, boot from HD is done. Keyboard and mouse are hardwired to mobo using the defined slots for keyboard and mouse (Gigabyte Mobo, 8GB of memory, dual core AMD 64 bit Athlon, 4200+) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Download the Network Install for 12.3 2. Using K3B to burn DVD 3. Boot DVD Expected Results: Ability to use arrow keys, tab or something to select on of the options or stop the countdown clock. The GNOME LIVE DVD works just fine. It is the Network DVD Install that does not recognize the keyboard/mouse. --- Comment #1 from Steve Thompson <stevet@copper.net> 2013-04-07 20:58:04 UTC --- 813916 was opened for this also and is a dup. Gateway error took place and it appeared that this ticket wasn't opened, so the second attempt gave 813916. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=813915 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=813915#c4 --- Comment #4 from Steve Thompson <stevet@copper.net> 2013-07-15 18:30:48 UTC --- It absolutely is not a kernel issue as once the kernel is loaded, ALL USB ports are functional. This is an install driver problem. In talking with Red Hat people a few weeks ago, they suggested that a driver was pushed out of the system. One would think that you would keep the USB drivers that would be for the legacy ports -- where one actually plugs in their mouse and keyboard, rather than forcing them to plug into the "forward" usb ports (which may or may not even be in use on a particular machine). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

In the boot menu the bios is still handling the keyboard. Moreover, gnome live and net install cds share the identical boot loader code. This could likely be some subtle bios issue. Anyway. You can hold down the SHIFT key at boot loader startup to put it into a text-based fallback mode. Or start the network install from the live cd. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
