http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=899714 Bug ID: 899714 Summary: the autoyast control file produced does not produce an identical system Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 13.2 Beta 1 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 Assignee: yast2-maintainers@suse.de Reporter: per@computer.org QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Hardware: HP DL380G5, quad-core, 16Gb RAM, root is RAID1 Software: factory Process: pxe+ssh+http Summary - a new system installed by running autoyast with the control.xml produced by an earlier manual install does not produce an identical system. I see some packages missing and others being installed extra. For instance, vim was not installed, but I got e.g. ghostscript and cups. I'm new to autoyast, I'm not sure what sort of diagnostics might be required. I'll start with the control.xml file and the y2log from the 2nd system. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I have had a look to the your configuration file. It looks a little bit strange because it would like to replace grub2 by lilo which YaST does not support at all, removes firewall although the configuration of firewall settings are defined in the configuration file.... I think it is not worth enough to go on here cause there are too many defined errors.
Well, that's why I reported the issue - the control file produced doesn't work. I did not touch it (except for maybe changing the network interface name).
I would suggest to making an installation, configure that system as you would like to have and generate the autoinst.xml file by the call "yast clone_system"
Isn't that what the options in YaST already do? Or is that something else?
The generated /root/autoinst.xml file is a good base for the next installations.
I'll repeat the exercise. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

For me it looks like you have almost no YAST module installed. Could you please attach the output of: rpm -qa|grep -i yast
of your installed system where you have called "yast2 clone_system" ? Thanks.

This should be on a 13.2 KDE installation: [snip]
Esp. the pattern patterns-openSUSE-yast2_basis-20141007-2.1.x86_64 is missed. Thats why the output is different.
FYI, this is a minimum text-mode only installation. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

so why would I put autoyast on the minimal installation?
You wouldn't presumably :-) Maybe the option to generate the autoconfig need to be disabled if the tools aren't available? It would be nice to know what is required - I would still like to be able to do an automatic minimal text-mode only install. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I guess there are two issues/questions here: a) the appropriate autoyast tools were not installed, hence YaST could not export or clone the config. Sounds like a YaST issue to me. I'll be happy to open a separate report, but I would like to someone to confirm my understanding. b) exactly which (auto)YaST tools are required to make export/clone work? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I have tested without that package in the minimal system again. So autoyast2 package is not needed. My assumption has been wrong. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Well, if I cannot reproduce the error and if see no chance to find the issue or what has happened here...yes. I have no problems with it if you would like to keep it open :-)
I'm sorry you find it amusing, I don't. The issue is reproducable on every clean install here. Perhaps you could think about how to gather some diagnostics to help you identify the issue. That's how most people solve problems. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
