openSUSE Tumbleweed contains a package system-tuning-common-SUSE which provides rules to select I/O scheduler in /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/60-io-scheduler.rules
I've submitted a request to adapt these rules such that - BFQ is not set for host-managed SMR drives and - BFQ is selected for SSDs.
(Note that on Tumbleweed BFQ is already selected for spinning disks.)
The request was declined:
"Sorry, this package is obsolete. There was a decision amongst the maintainers to rename it to better reflect its purpose."
with the recommendation to submit this change for package udev-extra-rules.
I've done that (github pull request for openSUSE/udev-extra-rules). Now waiting for review/reply.
