http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=613783 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=613783#c3 Rainer Hurtado Navarro <publio.escipion.el.africano@gmail.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEEDINFO |NEW InfoProvider|pmladek@novell.com | --- Comment #3 from Rainer Hurtado Navarro <publio.escipion.el.africano@gmail.com> 2010-06-15 16:13:39 UTC --- Hello, I am a KDE user since ever, although I recently had to use Gnome some times by request of some engineers due to my openSuSE 11.2's OOo (including openSuSE's OOo OBS) problems. However, this issue was present under both, KDE and Gnome, desktop environments. I realized that when answering question 5th. from Petr Mladek, https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=612265#c2. It was first noticed at the time I reported issue Bug 613257, because, among many other files, I made a file called "Topáronse en una venta... (1796).odt", by the name of the first verse (or line) of an untitled antique Spanish poem collected in a 1796 book. And, when I was making exampla of absolute file paths, I used pwd to get the absolute directory path in which I was to copy it, and then paste it in the report, and later, instead of to write the file name, I preferred to command ls *odt. Then I got surprised, because I did not see the file name "Topáronse en una venta... (1796).odt" at the directory's file list. I was very upset, because the Bug 601243, so I hesitated to send the Bug 613257, because I thought that the error was related with a miss-saving, lately noticed when I had already closed OOo Writer. But at a closer look I saw the file as "Topáronse en una venta... (1796)". I renamed it and I tried again the OOo 3.2.1's Google Docs & Zoho OOo extension, confirmed that the issue Bug 613257 was still present and submitted it. But at that time I had realized the spaces in the absolute file path, and I had tried a simpler absolute file path /home/user/Topáronse.odt (in fact, "Topáronse", but I renamed it again), that succeeded, and thus I remaded my report of Bug 613257 as an issue "related with absolute file path containing spaces". After that, I came in on Bug 612265, and I worked under Gnome for a while, and I made the file "sample OOo Calc file illustrating this issue [Bug 612265]", so I could answer rightly Petr Mladek's question 5th. above referred, and I realized that, in Gnome, OOo Calc saved the "sample OOo Calc file illustrating this issue" without the .ods extension. Thus, I commented that in my answer, https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=612265#c3, renamed the file, and opened this report. I'll care more about the scenario in which this issue happens for the future, to provide you a better description of this unusual issue. OpenOffice.org 3.2.1 / OOO320m19 (Build:9505) / ooo-build 3.2.1.4 from OBS. Open and Save is a dynamic process (that involves the selection of the content of the name field, and the typing it-self, and the name imposed to the file) and as I think that this issue involves more situations, such as a delay in browsing the folders, the incapability of Dolphing of retrieve the contents of a folder while OOo's "Open"/"Save"/"Save as" is running, etc., I though that it would be better a video than a picture, specially because the saving dialog it self has not any singularity bound to it that pointed out the cause of this issue. Also, I realized that this recently presented issue could be due to that I have used dots in the file names, but I am not so sure of that. For instance, I saved a document made with OOo Draw named "Árbol DNS" and it was saved without extension. I have already upgraded to OpenOffice_org-draw-3.2.1.6-1.2.x86_64.rpm and OpenOffice_org-draw-extensions-3.2.1.6-1.2.x86_64.rpm, but I still don't know whether this issue persist or not. File "test" does not take any extension (.odt, .ods, .pdf, etc.). In most cases it does not matter, because, when clicked, KDE launches the right application, but in certain cases KDE opens Ark, for instance. Also, as the file "test" does not take automatically an extension even when it is exported as pdf, OOo warns of overwriting the original OOo's file "test" with the newly pdf "test", so, if the user by automatism chose to proceed, the OOo file will be lost by its exported pdf. Let me know whether it is or it is not an OOo issue, and if you confirm me that it is a KDE issue I will not bother you any longer, any more. In this occasion I did not notice that the automatic filename extension checkbox was unchecked, but I assure you that may comment 5 was right then. So, I amend my recent report as follows: I was mistaken because, in the current version of LO shipped with 12.1, I enabled once the automatic filename extension checkbox, but in subsequent savings I did not realized that LO overwritten my preference by unchecking it, and I assumed it was already checked. I reported without pressing full attention. So: The current issue is due to that automatic filename extension checkbox is always disabled, in despite of that the user had already set the checkbox enabled in a previous saving. Thus, in every saving the user has to be aware of it is disabled and has to always enable it before saving. Is there any way to keep the user preferences for the automatic filename extension checkbox? I could not find it in Tools > Options.
