[Bug 238397] New: Kickoff "Network Folders" should be (optionally) browsable
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=238397 Summary: Kickoff "Network Folders" should be (optionally) browsable Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: james@bear454.com QAContact: qa@suse.de It would be nice to be able to click the "Network Folders" link on the "Computer" tab, and have it roll to a list of the contents of remote:/ (like the "Applications" tab contents roll). Heck, it might be nice to do that for Home and Documents, as well... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=238397 ------- Comment #2 from james@bear454.com 2007-01-25 18:03 MST ------- Well, it's a shame to see there is no plan to reimplement the full set of features from the "classic" KDE menu, although many of the missing features are what made it so usable... I feel like I've traded in my old decked-out car for a new one with shiny paint but no options... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=238397 ------- Comment #3 from stbinner@novell.com 2007-01-26 05:50 MST ------- The "optional menus" parts neither fit visually nor technically into the new menu. And the new one has not only shiny paint but new features... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Suggestion: One thing the KDE users like is the easy configurability of the desktop. Try to make the start menu as adaptable to our taste as you can. We don't need another gnome clone desktop. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=238397 ------- Comment #6 from james@bear454.com 2007-01-31 11:56 MST ------- I appreciate the added eye candy, and the addition of a 'Favorites' area, and the inclusion of desktop search in the new KDE menu, but I'm really struck by the overall lack of flexibility both in the software, and the developer(s). So, to be clear, it is the intent of the developer(s) to: 1) Not provide in the new KDE menu the functionality available in the KDE menu being replaced. 2) Not provide any method for the user to modify/adjust/personalize the behavior of the new KDE menu. 3) Not implement any 'File Manager' functions (except Documents the History tab, and what is available through the Beagle plugin) 4) Not document how the menu operates, or provide a standard interface for adding other plugins that enhance user functionality 5) Not implement the complete "usability" feature set provided in the Gnome "Computer" menu. 6) Not support basic expected user experience functionality (like changing icon sets when the user selects a new icon set) without rebooting (hello Windows!). You missed "flaming doesn't help". Use the classic KDE menu if you like it more. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=238397 ------- Comment #9 from stbinner@novell.com 2007-02-01 02:45 MST ------- Last addendum: all those "optional menus" can also be added as buttons to a panel so it's possible to use Kickoff and continue to use one's favorites of these. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
