After a while nm-applet shows disconnected, while the WLAN indicator becomes stable. This involves getting asked for the passphrase for the selected network repeatedly. Entering one a couple of times, but also pressing cancel a few times then results in. (activating devices with ifup with NetworkManager is used isn't supported). When NM keeps asking for passphrase, it means it can not connect and assumes the secrets where incorrect.
