[Bug 747489] New: Panel position goes wild after login
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=747489 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=747489#c0 Summary: Panel position goes wild after login Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.1 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: P.Suetterlin@royac.iac.es QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (X11; Linux x86_64; U; en) Presto/2.10.229 Version/11.61 I have my Panel set up to be on the top of the screen, and it is set to autohide. When I log in, some applications are autostarted. Among others a gkrellm in the upper left corner and an opera in the lower right. If I then move the mouse to the upper border, the panel appears as expected. Then I switch to a different desktop. Gkrellm is sticky, so it's still in the upper left, the rest is empty. If I now move the mouse to the upper screen border, the panel will shortly flash, but then appear *below* the krellm window, i.e., the upper border of the panel lines up with the lower border of gkrellm. There it stays. I.e., if I approach the pixel row of the lower gkrellm border, I can first see the blue glowing line at this position, then the panel pops up. If I then click on panel tool box and there on the 'Screen edge' button, the whole panel first jumps away to the lower border, from there I can move it back to the top. After that, it stays there for the rest of the session. If I log out and in again, the whole thing starts over again. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Make panel autohide at the upper screen border 2. Have some sticky application in the upper left corner 3. open panel on an otherwise empty desktop Expected Results: panel should always pop up at the upper screen border -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

As a suggestion: by locking widgets do you still get the problem ? Btw: please name the version of your KDE desktop; it may be useful for other people when they will tackle your bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=747489 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=747489#c2 --- Comment #2 from Peter Sütterlin <P.Suetterlin@royac.iac.es> 2012-02-25 07:54:50 UTC --- Ah, sorry - this is a plain OS 12.1, so KDE is 4.7.2 I tried locking widgets, but that doesn't change the bahavior of the panel. ('Windows can cover' is not an option for me). I had one crash of the panel, and when it restarted, it showed the same error agai until I (again) manually moved it to the upper border. And to specify more clearly what it does: - if there is no visible window touching the top, the panel will show up at top - if there is a window touching the top, the panel will show up in the first free row. I.e., if there is only one window (touching the top) the panel will be just below this window. If there is another window which begins higher than the lower border of that first window, the panel will be below that other window. If the second window starts lower than the lower border of the first, the panel will be between the two. - If there is no free row (e.g., a maximized window, or two with one touching the top, one touching the bottom, and the lower one starting higher than the lower border of the top one) the panel will show up at top In any case, the panel position stays volatile until I manually move it to the top again. It does remember the last position where it was, i.e., when you approach that position the bluish glow is visible. But when it actually unfolds, it will jump to the location as specified above (and of course immediately hide again as the mouse is no longer on the panel...) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Well if you want you could try upgrading KDE 4.7.2 to the upstream version 4.8 and see if that helps. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The problem seems to be only with panels *at the top of the screen*. In my case, a full width panel, centred, height 52, "always visible". After logout-login, the panel is moved one panel width downward, as in attached screenshot. KDE 4.7.2 on openSUSE 12.1. This will be fixed before 12.2 goes stable, I hope? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
