https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=818314 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=818314#c0 Summary: os-prober doesn't recognize Windows 7 installation Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@suse.com ReportedBy: markus.kossmann@gmx.de QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:20.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/20.0 If my Windows 7 partition isn't mounted, os-prober doesn't recognize the installation: # os-prober /dev/mapper/system-root--factory:openSUSE 12.3 (x86_64):SUSE:linux # mount -t ntfs /dev/sda1 /mnt # os-prober /dev/sda1:Windows 7 (loader):Windows:chain /dev/mapper/system-root--factory:openSUSE 12.3 (x86_64):SUSE:linux This also means that any update to grub2 , which does an reinstallation of grub2, will remove an existing menu entry for that windows installation. Note: this Windows 7 installation was updated from XP- So there is no seperate windows boot-partition. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.nothing to do, because unmounted Windows partition is the default 2. 3. In recent times that driver is created on the fly, and kernel module is included in initrd using makeinitrd. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After system installation I had only /dev/sda2 with repair system. There was no /dev/sda1 with actual Windows installation. I updated system, as usually, and rebooted. Problem with Vista was not solved. It was fixed after manually mounting /dev/sda1 and running YaST bootloader, as recommended in forums: https://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/install-boot-log... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next was Nvidia graphics driver installation, that spoiled boot menu again. I mounted /dev/sda1 and run mkinitrd. That fixed a problem again. In other words whole a lot of installation and updates can end with Windows responding with repair mode which can paint (open)SUSE in not so favorable light. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
