[Bug 421199] New: 32-bit libtermcap.so. 2 should be available for compatibility
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=421199 Summary: 32-bit libtermcap.so.2 should be available for compatibility Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: james.faulkner@yale.edu QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I am running 64-bit OpenSUSE 11.0, and have a 32-bit commercial application which requires the 32-bit libtermcap.so.2. Most distributions (such as gentoo and redhat) support having a 32-bit version of libtermcap.so.2 on a 64-bit system. However, when I try to install termcap-2.0.8-989.1.i586.rpm on my 64-bit OpenSUSE 11.0 system, I get the following error: termite:~ # rpm -Uvh termcap-2.0.8-989.1.i586.rpm error: Failed dependencies: libtermcap.so.2()(64bit) is needed by (installed) ckermit-8.0.211-129.1.x86_64 termite:~ # 32-bit libtermcap.so.2 should be available and installable on x86-64 versions of openSUSE. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Then extend the CFLAGS as I've already written on opensuse-packaging with the `ncurses5-config --cflags' or if a wide character version is required `ncursesw5-config --cflags' together with `ncursesw5-config --libs' to extend the LIBS variable before running the configure script. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Right ;) however in this case, seems the user really needs termcap-32bit that is AFAIK, the only package that provides libtermcap.so.2 ;-) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The old termcap and curses libraries in the package termcap exist for two reasons: to be able to support customers and/or third party programs and to be able to support the rare case of an program which is only able to use the old libtermcap instead of libncurses. This may happen if the e.g. tgetstr(3) is used to fetch parameterized strings which are definitly different between termcap and terminfo notation. See section `BUGS' in the manual page tgetstr(3). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
