[Bug 434600] New: Random kernel freeze
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=434600 Summary: Random kernel freeze Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta 2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: fred.blaise@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=245019) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=245019) dmidecode My system completely hangs at random. I was on opensuse 11.0, this was already happening with its stock kernel. But at some points, it didn't happen. I can't recall if this started happening with a kernel update or not :/ Today, I updated the kernel to 2.6.27-rc7-12-default (beta 2). Only the kernel. I have compiz removed, and X with composite disabled. I recently upgraded my hardware with a new AMD6000+, nvidia gfx card (9800GTX+), and added 2GB of ram (now at 4GB). (lspci, hwinfo and dmidecode attached). I tested memory with the 4GB, then 1 module at a time with memtest. Everything is fine, runs the whole night. CPU is running at around 40degrees celsius. Power is not an issue either (1000W). As a note, I am using the nvidia driver 177.78, but this also happened with the driver in nvidia opensuse repository (dual screen) There is nothing in the logs at all, just freezes all of a sudden. I tried to enable sysrq, but I couldn't make it do anything after this freeze. I would need some help to troubleshoot this. I tried the most obvious things. I am quite sure this is not hardware related. Help would be greatly appreciated. This makes my computer unusable... Thanks a lot. This is why I upgraded to 2.6.27, see if the regression was gone.
So, you had a kernel which didn't crash your system? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

So, you had a kernel which didn't crash your system?
At some point yes. I was still running my AMD 4200+ at the time (if this matters any). I can try reverting to an older one, ie. the original 11.0 kernel. Or if you have another kernel suggestion, let me know, I'll try it here. Thanks. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
