https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=713371 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=713371#c0 Summary: Keyboard Illumination/Backlight non-functional through FN+Z or media panel/strip control. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: wbca3110376@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=446832) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=446832) YaST Hardware Information User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/535.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/13.0.782.112 Safari/535.1 I am using a Toshiba Qosmio x775-q7272, which has a keyboard with backlighting in it. This machine is set up for dualboot with Windows 7 and openSUSE 11.4 (USB LiveCD install). Under Windows 7 the backlight and controls thereof (FN+Z and the media strip/panel touch-button) work, but not so under openSUSE 11.4. I have found nothing (acceptably) helpful in gaining control of the keyboard backlight feature within openSUSE 11.4. Allegedly one can disable ACPI in the bios and it would allow the keyboard backlighting to turn on, but I feel the cost of that may be greater than necessary for this luxury feature. So the keyboard illumination/backlighting is presently non-functional in openSUSE 11.4. I do a lot of work in the dark, and the backlighting helps tremendously. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Boot up into openSUSE 11.4 (keyboard backlighting on until after Grub starts booting openSUSE 11.4. 2. Wait until openSUSE takes over after Grub initiates it. 3. Once booted up, press FN+Z or the keyboard backlight touch-key on the media control panel/strip. Actual Results: Non-functional keyboard backlight toggling (or backlighting for that matter). Expected Results: Keyboard backlight toggling on/off. Of the controls in the media strip/panel, the ecoUtility (toshiba power saver type feature) and keyboard backlight do not work the rest (wireless, play/pause, mute, and volume up/down toggles) do work properly in openSUSE 11.4. Additionally, the touchpad has a light-bar that illuminates when the touchpad is turned on, in openSUSE 11.4 this is not the case (although I can still use it for mouse movement, I just do not see the light-bar illuminated), but is so under Windows 7. All in all the machine has worked wonders out of the box with openSUSE 11.4 (more than I can say for Fedora 15 and Ubuntu 11.04), but as always with newer machines, hardware support is a step or few behind. I have yet to see if the USB 3.0 (sleep and charge) capability or the hibernate/suspend (especially considering the use of nouveau drivers for NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M video card) works.I am certainly happy to say that even using the nouveau drivers I am running Gnome 3! I am definitely an openSUSEr now!
