http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=902398 --- Comment #2 from Josef Reidinger <jreidinger@suse.com> --- What is reason to use zast? We decided that it do not make much sense to keep such backward stuff so long. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

s/backward/functional/. The reason is the same it has always been: when working with different machines, some with a QWERTZ keyboard layout, one will inevitably end up typing 'zast' instead of 'yast'. In zypper, the alternative form "yzpper" was introduced recently. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

FYI, from the zypper changelog: * Fri Jul 11 2014 ma@suse.de - Add symlink yzpper -> zypper (bug#885655) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I think if you want to use keyboard, then choose proper layout. I also never see that -y and -z is same options, so I think it is not smart to support overlooking such typos. We also do not support to run "zast kezboard". -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

well, lets add Martin Vidner and Jiri Srain to heard their voices, but from my point of view if we add this,
s/add/not remove/ - 'zast' has existed as far back as 10.3 at least.
then we can start add symlink for typos in 'Dvorak' keyboard and others. I think if you want to use keyboard, then choose proper layout.
I think you misunderstand - the keyboard layout is no doubt correct, but one cannot change how one types, especially people who touch type (Zehnfingersystem). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=902398 Jiri Srain <jsrain@suse.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flags|needinfo?(jsrain@suse.com) | --- Comment #7 from Jiri Srain <jsrain@suse.com> --- I don't like creating such symlink; IIRC we even used to have 'zastě' for Czech keyboard layout in the past. However, it is quite some time ago... There are many other binaries or script, which contain y or z in their name; it is really just a minority of them which have such symlink. Speaking of zypper example: What about package names? You need to type them correctly no matter of the keyboard layour... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I am not talking about creating a symlink, I am talking about not removing it. There is no mention of adding any new functionality, it's about undoing the regression. 'zast' existed right up until openSUSE 13.2. Judging by the zypper example I gave, some people consider such a symlink quite useful, hence it was added to zypper. I don't have access to bug#885655, but I presume it has the reasoning for the new 'yzpper' symlink. Anyway, I can certainly create my own symlinks, I just think we ought to try to be consistent across openSUSE. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=902398 --- Comment #9 from Jiri Srain <jsrain@suse.com> --- Well, it has been removed years ago and this is the first complaint. As I wrote, 'zast' was not the only symlink, there was one for Czech keyboard layout as well. How many of them should be added? And I really don't think that if you mix keyboard layout, you don't have many more problems... Take this just as my personal opinion. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

If you have want to have it, then there is dedicated package for it http://software.opensuse.org/package/kezboard?search_term=kezboard Also you can open in fate idea to improve command-not-found to suggest you if you make typo. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Well, it has been removed years ago and this is the first complaint.
"removed years ago" ?? 'zast' was in yast-3.0.14 from May 5 2014. office11:~ # which zast /sbin/zast office11:~ # rpm -qf /sbin/zast yast2-3.0.14-17.1.x86_64 office11:~ # rpm -qi yast2-3.0.14 Name : yast2 Version : 3.0.14 Release : 17.1 Architecture: x86_64 Install Date: Mon Sep 8 16:40:15 2014 Group : System/YaST Size : 2057988 License : GPL-2.0 Signature : RSA/SHA256, Mon May 12 10:37:12 2014, Key ID b88b2fd43dbdc284 Source RPM : yast2-3.0.14-17.1.src.rpm Build Date : Mon May 5 11:00:58 2014 Build Host : cloud113 Relocations : (not relocatable) Packager : http://bugs.opensuse.org Vendor : openSUSE Summary : YaST2 - Main Package Description : This package contains scripts and data needed for SuSE Linux installation with YaST2 Distribution: openSUSE 13.1
As I wrote, 'zast' was not the only symlink, there was one for Czech keyboard layout as well. How many of them should be added?
None need to be added, but the existing 'zast' symlink should not have been needlessly removed. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=902398 --- Comment #12 from Josef Reidinger <jreidinger@suse.com> --- yes, it is not year. I removed it it on Oct 3 2013 https://github.com/yast/yast-yast2/commit/39cc36189b2768805064339ba054b7228c... Reason is that we do not want to support it as we decided it is not job of yast2 to handle typos. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
