AFAICS you are viewing the content of a tarball. Please check that on the command line with "tar tvf mytarball.tar.bz2". The result: mc 4.8.31 shows the current date for pseudo directories the mc 4.8.32 now shows the Unix first day 1.1.1970 for pseudo directories This behavior can also be seen in an rpm in the CONTENTS.cpio, where the pseudo directories are also displayed with 1.1.1970.
