Could you please take a photo of the 'kernel panic' screen, then boot some other system (installed or live doesn't matter) and attach output of 'hwinfo'?

The live DVD (openSUSE-10.2-GM-LiveDVD.iso) did not managed to boot a brand new Dell D820 (C2D T7200, 2.0GHz) Laptop. The DVD itself was confirmed to be stable (the MD5 of the iso file was correct), it managed to boot correctly on a one year old desktop (P4).
the boot process starts differently on the Laptop. no penguin animation was observed as on the desktop only a plain green screen with the Suse title. after the kde/gnome selection is made, the boot process halts.
an error message states that "the boot media is un available" and "kernal panic" message terminates the boot process

Hello, I had the same problem with an ASUS P5B-E Plus with SATA DVD (samsung) + SATA HD. I solved it by buying a PATA (connected to the JMICRON chip). Live Suse 10.2 boots fine and I was able to run all software. Funnily enough, I heard about the PATA problem so I bought initially all SATA drives (DVD +HD) But when I tried Live SUSE 10.2 it didn't work due to this kernel panic message. However, when I downloaded the Open Suse 10.2 for HD installation and wrote in on 5 CD's, I had no problem installing it on the PC from the SATA DVD drive. In summary for me: Live SUSE works on PATA, but not on SATA. Installable Suse works when installing from SATA (didn't try from PATA). By the way, on the same PC, I had no trouble booting the latest LIVE distributions from Ubuntu, Mandriva and Knoppix from SATA DVD. Only Live Suse had problems from the SATA DVD. As said before, however, Suse installation runs fine from SATA.
