[Bug 168602] Can not administer CUPSD via http://localhost:631 because root password is rejected
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=168602 marcc@easystreet.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |marcc@easystreet.com Status|RESOLVED |REOPENED Resolution|INVALID | ------- Comment #3 from marcc@easystreet.com 2007-01-08 22:03 MST ------- Well I beg to differ! I am trying to set up CUPs and found the following - # lppasswd -g sys -a root Enter password: Enter password again: lppasswd: Unable to open passwd file: Permission denied # lppasswd -a root Enter password: Enter password again: lppasswd: Unable to open password file: Permission denied # stracing lppasswd reveals that it is trying to create /etc/cups/passwd.md5 Temporarily chmod'ing og+w /etc/cups reveals that passwd.md5 is created as user "lp", but /etc/cups is owned by root. Note: The man page says lppasswd is setuid root, but ls -l shows that on SuSE 10.1 it is setuid lp. Therefore it does not work because it has no write access to /etc/cups -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
