[Bug 679153] New: KVPNC and OpenVPN 2.1.4-11.14.1
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=679153 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=679153#c0 Summary: KVPNC and OpenVPN 2.1.4-11.14.1 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: jeanbarloy@free.fr QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Hello, I tried to set up a OpenVPN connection with Kvpnc but the command "openvpn_execve" does not work: it's asking for OpenVPN to be started with "--script-security 2". I checked every option in KVPNC but didn't find any way to do that directly through the program. As a result, I had to downgrade to OpenVPN 2.1.1-4.1 to get my connection working. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hello, i can confirm this bug.
It is actually introduced by SuSE's openvpn Patch3 : openvpn-no-build-date.patch
I don't know the reason behind this patch but the effect is that kvpnc cannot detect openvpn version anymore.
reason is dependant on our build system, packages are built, then compared with the previuos version, if they are equal, they are discarded, if not, published. having a single irrelevant difference like the build date triggers mass rebuild/republish of binaries. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

From what i read in kvpnc source code, only the word "built" is actually needed. So if including the date is a problem, you could remove it if you keep the work "built" in "openvpn --version" output.
I'm using a very simple bash script wrapper that return "OpenVPN 2.1.4 x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu [SSL] [LZO2] [EPOLL] [PKCS11] built" when called with "--version" and it makes kvpnc working again. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

marius, could you also cross check?
Yes, sr#64215 works / makes what it does. Applied to network:vpn/openvpn + added comment that explains the line replacing the patch in the spec file: - +# the build __DATE__ causes obs rebuild/republish of binaries; +# use the date of version.m4 file in the tar archive instead sed -e "s|\" __DATE__|$(date '+%b %e %Y' -r version.m4)\"|g" -i options.c Forwarded with above comment in request 64656: Request #64656: submit: network:vpn/openvpn(r23) -> openSUSE:11.4:Update:Test/openvpn Message: - KVPNC is unable to parse openvpn version [bnc#679153] from sr#64215 - Applied sr#64215, added comment that explains what the sed call does -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
