[Bug 610462] New: KDE doesn't update screen size on xrandr --fb
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=610462 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=610462#c0 Summary: KDE doesn't update screen size on xrandr --fb Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Milestone 6 Platform: i386 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: atilinuxnovellbugs@ati.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100423 Ubuntu/10.04 (lucid) Firefox/3.6.3 Hardware: AMD Athlon 64 X2, Radeon HD 4650 (RV730) Configuration: no xorg.conf, using RADEON driver When changing the FB size using xrandr --fb or --panning, the KDE workspace size doesn't change. It appears as if a mode change is required for KDE to get notified of a FB size change. This doesn't happen in GNOME. Problem was observed on multiple systems using the Radeon and fglrx drivers. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Steps to reproduce: - in KDE 4 open a terminal window - enter command "xrandr --fb <size>" where <size> is bigger than the current Alternative steps to reproduce: - in KDE 4 open a terminal window - enter command "xrandr --output <output> --panning <size>" where <output> is a connected monitor and <size> is bigger than the monitor's current mode Actual Results: - workspace is not resized - if panning, screen is black beyond the original workspace size - if desktop effects are enabled, the contents of terminal window stop updating Expected Results: - workspace is resized to match the new FB size or panning region The problem was observed on openSUSE 11.3 and also 11.2. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Think of KernelModeSetting, fixed pixel size of flatscreens... -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=610462 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=610462#c2 --- Comment #2 from Luugi Marsan <atilinuxnovellbugs@ati.com> 2010-06-01 15:53:12 UTC --- I don't see how KMS or fixed size displays figure into this. Workspace resizing can happen in a number of circumstances that don't necessarily involve changing the display mode: * enable panning * change RandR transformations (xrandr --rotate ... | --scale ... | --transform ..) * connect or disconnect monitors * enable or disable connected monitors * change monitor arrangements for example from clone to big desktop IMHO KDE4 should be able to handle these cases correctly. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
