[Bug 366551] New: Intermittent Keyboard Malfunction With 10.3, Keyboard responds, or not, depending on the phase of the moon
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=366551 Summary: Intermittent Keyboard Malfunction With 10.3, Keyboard responds, or not, depending on the phase of the moon Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: suse.linux@rfi.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Customer I have some major keyboard issues with SuSe 10.3, with which I replaced the version 10.0 which I'd been meaning to upgrade for a while. With SuSe versions 7, 8, 9 and 10, I had no such issues with the keyboard. At the moment, something like half of the time, the keyboard appears to take on a life of it's own, for no apparent reason, and refuses to respond to numberkeys, or control keys. I'm a programmer and I use vi (vim) a lot, and as you can imagine, this is a major headache when the keyboard does not respond as instructed. I've tried resetting the keyboard in Yast2, and using the 'reset'command for the shell, running xmodmap on a saved Xmodmap.standard file, nothing seems to help. The keys just work fine sometimes, and at other times, they appear to just not function correctly at all. This all happens in thekonsole too, before I have started X, and this also happens in the X windowmanager too, in every application, or none, depending perhaps on the cycles ofthe moon. There's some wierd behaviour while the keyboard is 'off', for instance: 1. to get a number zero - press the numlock key with the letter 'm'. 2. the left arrow key works, but the right arrow key does not. 3. pressing alt-tab, (cycle through open application windows), just ignores the alt-, so that if I'm in a konsole, I get the 'display all 2649 possibilities?' messages instead. 4. in vim, going to the end of the line ($) is virtually impossible (I had to type this line several times to obtain the braces and dollar sign). 5. getting an application to run in the background with a trailing '&' cannot be done. 6. typing a number is impossible. 7. I can type '0' (zero) eight times, and I get a zero on the sixth, or seventh, time, sometimes. 8. then, suddenly, everything works fine again, for a while... Hopefully the fix for this annoyingly aberrant, and intermittent, behaviour is ridiculously simple. TIA. if anyone has any sensible ideas...? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
