Out of a sudden suspend to RAM was broken on my system. I tracked it down to the point that when I blacklist uvcvideo (/etc/modprobe.d/bla now contains 'install uvcvideo /bin/true') it fixes the issue. The driver doesn't claim the USB device any longer.
