[Bug 542512] New: Card insertions into multi-format USB reader are not always detected
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=542512 Summary: Card insertions into multi-format USB reader are not always detected Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: tvrtko@ursulin.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.2) Gecko/20090730 SUSE/3.5.2-3.4 Firefox/3.5.2 I just installed fresh milestone 7 build this weekend and I am pretty sure this worked once, but after that it just doesn't. There are no kernel messages logged at all and the activity light on the reader is just constanly lit once a card is inserted. I know I need to do more diagnosing here to figure out exactly when it works and when it doesn't (for example if it is related to hibernate-resume or something), so I am opening this a bit prematurely partialy also as a reminder to myself. Card reader in question identifies itself as: Bus 002 Device 004: ID 058f:9360 Alcor Micro Corp. 8-in-1 Media Card Reader And it is visible to the SCSI layer even it doesn't work: tvrtko@pluto:~> lsscsi [0:0:0:0] disk ATA WDC WD3200AAKS-0 12.0 /dev/sda [2:0:0:0] cd/dvd TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S182D SB04 /dev/sr0 [4:0:0:0] disk Generic USB SD Reader 1.00 /dev/sdb [4:0:0:1] disk Generic USB CF Reader 1.01 /dev/sdc [4:0:0:2] disk Generic USB SM Reader 1.02 /dev/sdd [4:0:0:3] disk Generic USB MS Reader 1.03 /dev/sde Reproducible: Sometimes -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

How do you define not working? Is it not mountable at all? Is it not automounted? If this problem has been fixed in the interim, please let us know. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=542512 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=542512#c2 --- Comment #2 from Tvrtko Ursulin <tvrtko@ursulin.net> 2009-12-14 09:06:10 UTC --- It was still not working with the release version. Not working means what I wrote - after card insertion there was zero activity in the kernel log after card is inserted. So the problem is way before mounting. What I am not sure is whether it happens always or only after resume from hibernation. Unfortunately, two days ago I decommissioned this machine because open source radeon driver was really slow on it. I may find some time during the Christmas break to look at it again. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
