[Bug 416544] New: When accessibility is enabled in Gnome, Yast2 windows output an error when closed.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=416544 Summary: When accessibility is enabled in Gnome, Yast2 windows output an error when closed. Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: d@digitaldarragh.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Novell Technical Services When Accessibility is enabled in Gnome, the GTK version of Yast2 seems to be very unreliable. The errors I've found are: 1. When you close a window, for example online update configuration, a dialogue appears with an error. I am unable to read this error as I depend on the Orca screen reader to obtain the output and this dialogue is not accessible. This happened in 10.3 also. 2. Yast2 is not compatible with Orca's flat review mode. Note, this is not an Orca bug as flat review works in any other application. On a desktop keyboard, while in yast, try reading the screen using the flat review mode using 7, 8 and 9 for next, current and previous lines respectively. You will not hear any speech. 3. In the software update or software management screens, arrowing through the list of packages does not work with Orca. Orca will not speak each list item. This issue seems to be widespread in Yast2 as the list view in the repository configuration window will also not speak. 4. This is more of a usability issue. When a user presses enter on the software button on the left to focus on the options within the software section, keyboard focus does not change. Sorry for submitting this as one bug report however the accessibility of Yast2 although a welcome edition to OpenSuSE requires a lot of improvement before usable by general users. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

For the first problem please attach y2logs. The 1st item should be on the road for a fix as of report bug 346987 and subsequent bug 399975. For the 2nd item, is it correct that flat review applies only to message dialogs? There are other problems with message dialogs, such as the button ordering, and we should address this particular issue as part of reports like bug 392171. I'll be testing the 3rd item and try to get to the bottom of it. Didn't quite understand what you were referring to the 4th item -- please clarify. YOu will notice that the items in the software section are highlighted however the focus does not move from the software button that has just been activated. I.e. Visually on screen, the user is shown the options in the software category however the screen reader user is shown nothing. The focus should at a minimum be set to the first element of the software section. Is there an ETA on the resolution time of the frst three bugs. these are major issues that blind users of OpenSuSE are constantly fighting with. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I thought you were referring to the software installer tool itself. The thing is that the Yast Control Center is a very different beast of the rest of Yast. The same software that powers the start-menu Application Browser is in fact the one used for this one, so I have open bug 417875 against that code. Please also clarify for me in what consists the flat review and for what interfaces does it apply. Is it correct to say it only applies to message dialogs such as warning and error ones? Also asked for an update for that item 1. I will have to fix that item 3 myself now. ;) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I have filled bug 418032, to get those guys to use zenity, which works with Orca, when available. (There was already a request to use zenity, but it was dropped because the only benefit was that it was prettier -- I guess this has more chances to get through.) Your particular problem with the Online Update is very unlikely related. It works for me, but it would be good if more people tested it; I just sent an email to gnome-accessibility-list about that. Darragh, are you using either svn ORBit2 or a /root/ORBitrc to specify ipv4? This would determine whether #1 is related to that bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Could you explain that flat review mode you mentioned in the 2nd point. And does that apply to any window or just the message / confirm dialog ones? Desktop customization of button order was just implemented, so maybe we can pressure this in, if this applies to message dialogs as well... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
