[Bug 233347] New: opensuseupdater: the info popup-window violates desktop settings
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=233347 Summary: opensuseupdater: the info popup-window violates desktop settings Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: qa@suse.de I am talking about this popup "there are 4 updates". This windows does not behave like window and does not look like window -- it should be normal window like any others. I customized my desktop for purpose -- so I would like all windows to look the same, not some fancy rounded edges, double titlebar height, change close widget placement. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

It is not a window. Not a window. It IS a passive popup. Second. I am not aware KDE styles KPassivepopup, so if we remove the styling, you will get the typical grey passive popup. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

"Second" that's the point of this report -- I don't see how it could be invalid report. I can attach the screenshot if you don't believe me. All windows, Gnome, non-Gnome, KDE, non-KDE, _have_ to conform to the settings. I set close button to the left, max/min to the right. Sharp edges. And I expect my desktop would not look like a mess because each software developer introduce "better" standards. Hopefully there are only two such cases -- OpenOffice and all-yast2-wide modules. However OSU is "the best" -- violates even window decorations. Since KDE is valid desktop environment (isn't it?) I am reopening this report -- OSU does not fit to KDE and this is not KDE fault, but OSU. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

THIS IS NOT A WINDOW. No WM settings. Did you already complain for the popup you get when konqueror blocks a malware js autoopen? it is the same. The KDE std passive popup doesn't look like you think it looks. The right fix is to implement KNotify, then you can set the notify to a modal window that you will need to press OK to get rid of. That will come later. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Max/Min to the right?
Yes -- if it is scalable. Close widget to the left (i.e. according to the settings).
THIS IS NOT A WINDOW.
OSU popup? Oh, I see, it is radiobutton then, right? Come on... I, and any user, don't care if you call window API or draw it pixel by pixel. In visual terms it is a window. I set close button on the left and when I see ~window, I expect to see close widget on the left.
Did you already complain for the popup you get when konqueror blocks a malware js autoopen?
Nope.
The right fix is to implement KNotify, then you can set the notify to a modal window that you will need to press OK to get rid of. That will come later.
From my point of view (user), is following settings -- so if you want to try to use close widget, please, put in on...
Oh, good point indeed -- why did you put it on the right? Why not on the left bottom? Why not in center of the window? Why not shape of the circle? Because it is easiest to do to assume that everybody use the same settings. And if there is ANY reason to hardcode it to the right, there is exactly the same perfectly good reason to check the settings first. Is there any harm in this? And note that drawing close widget does make sense only for ~windows -- not for radiobuttons, not for menus. So the settings really says -- "if you use close widget put in on the left". And OSU doesn't listen. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=233347 ------- Comment #5 from dmacvicar@novell.com 2007-02-22 09:09 MST ------- Do you know the standard KDE passive popup? http://www.englishbreakfastnetwork.org/apidocs/apidox-kde-4.0/kdelibs-apidoc... There is a screenshot there. If I revert the customizations. You will see that. Always gray, no matter what style you use, no close button, etc. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Technically, either how it is, or the screenshot in #5. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=233347 ------- Comment #7 from bluedzins@wp.pl 2007-02-22 12:11 MST ------- Duncan, the OSU popup does not look like a passive popup. So please, make up your mind -- follow some guideline, I don't care which, but do not display X which look like Y, because then my complain that it is not Y is valid. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=233347 ------- Comment #8 from dmacvicar@novell.com 2007-02-23 05:00 MST ------- You did not answer my question. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=233347 ------- Comment #9 from bluedzins@wp.pl 2007-02-23 07:00 MST ------- I am sorry, I misunderstood you -- I saw this screenshot, yes, I would like to see something just like this. Because such thing "sends correct singal" --> "I am not real window". And current OSU window (if it is passive window) sends incorrect visual singal --> I am a window. But it is fake window. So, yes, please, follow this KDE guideline (or make it real window -- but fit to one of the guidelines). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
