[Bug 1056957] New: Console font should be eurlatgr (according /etc/sysconfig/console), but is not
http://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1056957 Bug ID: 1056957 Summary: Console font should be eurlatgr (according /etc/sysconfig/console), but is not Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: opensuse.lietuviu.kalba@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 739232 --> http://bugzilla.suse.com/attachment.cgi?id=739232&action=edit /etc/sysconfig/console Yesterday I installed openSUSE Tumbleweed. my locale is set to use eurlatgr font (as most locales, see bug#942896 ). Although bug#942896 is fixed, seems regression was while setting console font. /etc/sysconfig/console have line: CONSOLE_FONT="eurlatgr.psfu"
localectl System Locale: LC_CTYPE=lt_LT.UTF-8 VC Keymap: n/a X11 Layout: n/a
/etc/vconsole.conf does not exist Setting locale via localectl seems not affect console font -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Just an idea to debug a bit deeper:
mv /usr/bin/setfont /usr/bin/setfont.exe
Then place following script in place of setfont: ------------ #!/bin/sh exec >>/tmp/setfont.log exec 2>&1 exec "$@" ------------
chmod +x /usr/bin/setfont
And then see, what will contain /tmp/setfont.log.
After finishing, revert the change: mv /usr/bin/setfont.exe /usr/bin/setfont
I tried this, but /tmp/setfont.log was not created -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Console font and keyboard layout is no more initialized by a kbd init script, but by a systemd-vconsole-setup.
It calls loadkeys and setfont internally.
The algorithm of font loading should do:
- There is no fallback defined.
- First, it reads CONSOLE_FONT+CONSOLE_SCREENMAP+CONSOLE_UNICODEMAP from /etc/sysconfig/console
- Second, it reads FONT+FONT_MAP+FONT_UNIMAP from /etc/vconsole.conf
- Third, it reads vconsole.font+vconsole.font_map+vconsole.font_unimap from the kernel command line.
The later value wins.
Although seems /etc/sysconfig/console is ignored, but it is not problem as /etc/vconsole.conf now exist by default -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
