Instead of aborting, the installer should notify that the user that the partition cannot be formatted, and allow the user to retry w/o restarting the installation. To reproduce: 1. Boot off the LiveCD. 2. Mount a partition (say to backup /etc from a prior broken install or something equally useful ;-) 3. Forget to unmount the partition 4. Double-click the installation icon on the desktop, go through wizard, and specify that the root partition (to be formatted) is the same partition mounted in step 2. 5. Installation aborts when attempting to format partition in (2). Desired behavior: In (5), the installer should note that the partition is mounted, and open a dialog , e.g. "Could not formation partition XXX, as it is mounted." [ Abort Installation ] [ Retry ] The user will then know to unmount the partition, and can easily resume installation.
